Through our 30+ years serving New Yorkers, Better Air Quality has continued to innovate and advance the industry. Our techniques and skills were developed by performing thousands of jobs. We have always put a tremendous amount of our resources into building bigger and better equipment, new tools, and developing new techniques to improve our services. Better Air Quality remains a local family-owned company and not a franchise.
There simply is no substitute for experience and there is a lot more to performing a professional air duct cleaning than most people know. We have learned how to successfully clean the heating and air conditioning systems in any size or configuration of building.
The way we clean air ducts and HVAC systems now doesn’t even resemble the way we cleaned systems in our early years. It takes many years to gain the knowledge to perfect the air duct cleaning process. You may be surprised to know that most of our competitors are still cleaning systems the way we did 30 years ago!
The name Better Air Quality comes from our powerful Better Air Quality Trucks that we custom-built to meet our stringent specifications. We have always believed that the key to professionally cleaning heating and air conditioning systems is to have tremendous suction power. No other air duct cleaning vacuum trucks or portable equipment even comes close to generating the type of suction power the Better Air Quality Truck will produce.
In 1999, Better Air Quality Inc. of NY was formed and began operation. During our first three years in business, we were the only company in New York cleaning air ducts. At the time, homeowners and commercial buildings just didn’t get their air ducts cleaned. They had never done it before, so why do it now? Virtually every call we received was from a customer asking us “Why should I clean my air ducts?”
We stuck with it, educated the public on the need to clean their air ducts, and now almost everyone understands the importance of having a clean air duct system delivering air into their home or commercial building.
The beginning of Better Air Quality started with founder Jim Castellano, spending months scouring the country for equipment (remember, there was no Internet then) and researching techniques that others
had come up with for cleaning air ducts. Castellano settled on a vacuum truck built in Pennsylvania for cleaning furnaces. He then modified the truck for cleaning air ducts and then had to go about teaching himself how to clean air ducts. Better Air Quality is still a local family-owned NY company based on Long Island led by Castellano.

Training and Certifications
Our technicians undergo extensive training. Many of our competitors train their employees for one or two days and then send them out to clean air ducts in homes and buildings. At Better Air Quality, our employees work as an apprentice assisting one of our technicians for approximately one year before they are even ready to go through our Technician Training Program. We make sure that our technicians understand every facet of our service before we ever send them to your home or building. What makes our technicians unique and more qualified than those at other companies is that ours are trained on how to be heating and air conditioning service professionals who know how to clean systems. Other companies only train their technicians using a very limited process that falls well short of our thorough training. It has always been our belief at Better Air Quality that in order to thoroughly clean an HVAC system you need to fully disassemble a system, and that takes skills that a typical air duct cleaning technician doesn’t have. Our technicians are trained on furnaces and air conditioners, how they function, how to troubleshoot them, how to repair them and how to insure they are running safely.
Complete System Cleaning
When you hire Better Air Quality to clean your heating and air conditioning systems, we clean the entire system. Our standard service includes cleaning the full length of the supply air ducts, the full length of the return air ducts and we also clean the entire furnace and air handler. Our furnace cleaning includes cleaning the blower, heat exchanger, burners and all the surfaces that the air passes over. We even clean the evaporator coil. This is something that other companies don’t include. For instance, in order to clean a blower it is necessary that the technician removes the blower from the furnace cabinet. This requires skills that most duct cleaning technicians don’t have. Our technicians are HVAC techs and they have the necessary skills to remove a blower from a furnace. When we clean the air ducts we clean the duct from the point the air enters your building, all the way back to the origin of the air duct, at the air handler.
